Duplantis Better Than Last Year, Denny Pulverises 40-year-old Meeting Record
The first night of the Wanda Diamond League Final at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme produced two meeting records. And, of course, the first 16 Wanda Diamond League Champions of 2024. Pole vault phenomenon Mondo Duplantis jumped over 6m11, discus thrower Matthew Denny registered 69m96, breaking the 40-year-old Brussels meet record.
Broeders and Bayekula Belgian Stars on First Night
15 Belgians were in action on Friday the first evening of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme, eight of them in a Wanda Diamond League Final. Ben Broeders finished a strong third in the pole vault final. Double Paralympic Champion Léa Bayekula won the 800 metres.
McLaughlin-Levrone Impresses with 400 Metres Outing
Olympic Champion and world record holder in the 400-metre hurdles Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone competed in the 400-metre flat at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme on Friday night. The American recorded the seventh fastest time of the season and proved faster than the winner of the Wanda Diamond League final, which was run 15 minutes later.
