Sustainability

Athletics for a Better World
Bronze standard

The Allianz Memorial Van Damme has embedded sustainability, diversity and inclusion into its vision and organisation, and strives to contribute to a better world in line with the principles of ABW (Athletics for a Better World).

This means recognising the growing environmental challenges facing our world, while also acknowledging that global inequality and a lack of diversity and inclusion pose a serious threat to both our planet and its people.

Our key initiatives:

  • A sustainable procurement charter for suppliers, outlining our commitments and establishing clear guidelines on matters such as waste management, responsible use of materials and support for short supply chains.
  • Carbon reduction efforts, measured and monitored together with our partner ENGIE. These insights help us identify opportunities for improvement in future editions. The transport of our many spectators is a particularly important factor in this process.
  • Electrifying our vehicle fleet, supported by our new partnership with Honda.
  • Continuing to promote diversity and inclusion among both participants and spectators, while ensuring accessibility for athletes and spectators with disabilities. We are committed to gender equality, including equal prize money and compensation for male and female athletes, and we support initiatives aimed at assisting vulnerable families.

Recycle Your Old Mobile Phone with Recupel

Sustainability is not only about what happens on the track, but also about the choices we make together. That is why Allianz Memorial Van Damme and Recupel are joining forces to give forgotten mobile phones a second life.

Bring your old mobile phone to the Recupel stand on 4 or 5 September 2026 and receive a drinks voucher. More than 1.6 million mobile phones are lying unused in Belgian drawers, even though they still contain valuable raw materials such as gold, silver and copper. By recycling your device, you help recover these materials and reduce the impact on the environment.
