Bronze European medallist Nkansa gets 100m wildcard
Delphine Nkansa will be on the startlist of the Women’s 100m on Saturday Sep.,5th during the 50th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. The freshly crowned European Bronze Medallist from Belgium is rewarded with a wildcard after her surprising performance in Birmingham.
World Champions Wanyonyi and Kebinatshipi lead super fast 800m and 400m fields
World and Olympic 800m Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi is one of the World Class athletes that has been added to the field of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. Rising 400m star Busang Collen Kebinatshipi will also be part of the action on Friday Sep., 4th in the King Baudouin Stadium for the 50th edition of the Memorial Van Damme and the Wanda Diamond League Final.
Unique look back at Ivo’s career and 49 editions of the Memorial
From Saturday 8 August, the ‘From Ivo to Mondo’ exhibition looks back on the life of Ivo Van Damme and the highlights and rich history of the Memorial Van Damme. Numerous exclusive artefacts, previously unseen archive material and moving footage bring this extraordinary story to life. The exhibition runs until Sunday 6 September at the Lottery Shop on De Brouckère Square in the heart of Brussels. Admission is free.
Nafi Thiam in the high jump
Every year, the Allianz Memorial Van Damme welcomes the biggest international and Belgian stars of athletics, and Nafi Thiam is obviously one of them. The three-time Olympic Heptathlon Champion will be one of the main draws of the high jump on Saturday 5 September.
Broeders-Bol set to compete in Brussels
Femke Broeders-Bol will be at the start of the 800 metres at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme on Saturday 5 September. The Dutch athlete will go head-to-head with Swiss sensation Audrey Werro at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Another new top name the organisers are delighted to announce is the 20-year-old Australian Cameron Myers, the rising star of the 1,500 metres, which takes place on Friday 4 September. This year, the Memorial serves as the final of the Wanda Diamond League and is celebrating its 50th edition.
Unbeaten Alfred and World Record Holder Amusan to come to Brussels
The Allianz Memorial Van Damme is set to add two lightning-fast women to its line-up. Julien Alfred is the fastest woman over 200 metres this year and has yet to lose a single race. Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100-metre hurdles, will also be making an appearance in a month’s time at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels for the Wanda Diamond League’s grand final weekend.
Memorial Expo "from Ivo to Mondo"
The 50th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme on 4 and 5 September will not only be a two-day celebration at the stadium. It is also the perfect opportunity to look back on the highlights and rich history of the Memorial, and on the life of Ivo Van Damme. This is the aim of the ‘from Ivo to Mondo’ Expo, which will be open to the public on 8 August at the Lottery Shop on De Brouckère Square in the heart of Brussels. Admission is free.
Swiss Sensation Audrey Werro is coming to Brussels
Athletics fans can look forward to Audrey Werro’s appearance at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. The 22-year-old Swiss athlete has been the sensation of the season in the 800 metres. Week after week, Werro has been breaking records in the 800 metres. She is the fastest 800-metre runner since 1983.
Allianz Memorial Van Damme launches Memorial Run: 5 km along Ivo Van Damme’s former training route in Leuven
The Allianz Memorial Van Damme is more than just enjoying top-class sport. This year, you can take part yourself: the Memorial Run on Sunday 23 August, will be an atmospheric 5 km race along Ivo Van Damme’s former training route on the outskirts of Leuven. Registration is now open. The Memorial Run forms part of the festive anniversary programme for the 50th edition of the Memorial, which takes place in Brussels on 4 and 5 September.
Royal Memorial Van Damme
A proud milestone for the Memorial family. The meeting has officially received the Royal designation and will from now on carry the name “Royal Memorial Van Damme”.
