Average Rob’s Turbo Sprint returns to the Allianz Memorial Van Damme with mixed relay

Last year turbo landed for the first time on the Allianz Memorial Van Damme for a sprint between creators. Australian Olli Bownman sprinted to victory. Now the Turbo Sprint returns to the King Baudouin Stadium during the Diamond League and in a new formula : the unofficial World Championship 4 x 100m relay for creators.

Six countries – Belgium enters two teams – compete against each other in a spectacular mixed 4 x 100m relay. Each team is composed of two men and two women that represent their country in a boiling King Baudouin Stadium.

The Turbo Sprint will be held on the second day of the 50th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme that gathers the best athletes in the world to batlle for the Prize Money. On Saturday, Sep.,5th the race will get a priviliged spot right after the Opening Ceremony and just a few moments before the world class athletes enter the arena.

Average Rob : “The best thing about the Turbo Sprint is that nobody feels the need to win.But once you represent your country, in a fully packed stadium, you can’t but fly and give it your all. This year the relay event adds a complexity, I’m looking forward to how the creators will try and handle that technically.”

Kim Gevaert, meeting director : “Don’t convince me of what it means to fly for your country. Of course we could’t say no to this event. Turbo adds a completely different, young and refreshing dynamics to the program. If they just do some practice on baton changes, everything will work out fine.”

The participating teams will be announced for every country, starting on Monday, August 24th through the channels of Turbo.
