On June, 10th Ja’Kobe Tharp sent a shock through the world of track and field by smashing the 14 year old 110m Hurdles World Record from Aries Merritt at the American Collegiate Championships (NCAA). Tharpe shaved 5 hundredths of a second off the old mark when clocking 12”75. Tharp also won the Diamond League meetings in London and Silesia to set his footprint in Europa as well. On Friday Sep.4th the young American can put the icing on the cake in the Diamond League Final in Brussels.
The Men’s Pole Vault is set to become a thrilling event on Sep.,4th. Mondo Duplantis faces a tough battle to retain his Diamond League title. In Stockholm Duplantis was beaten by Kurtis Marschall in the event and in Lausanne Karalis was able to challenge Duplantis up to 6,16m. Karalis and Marschall are eager to challenge Duplantis again, as will London winner Sam Kendricks. However Duplantis enters the competition as the strong favourite, having jumped 4 times over 6,20m and higher and having set the 6,31m World record in Uppsala earlier this year. No other athlete has ever crossed a bar of 6,17m or higher.
The Allianz Memorial Van Damme celebrates its 50th edition and hosts the Diamond League Final this year. Across two days finals will be held in 32 athletics events, 16 for the Men and 16 for the Women.
On Saturday, Sep.5th double Olympic 3000m Steeplechase Champion Soufiane El Bakkali will be on the track, as well as former 400m Hurdles World Champion Alison dos Santos and double 200m Olympic Silver Medalist Kenny Bednarek who faces Commonwealth Champion Sineshipo Dambile.
