It is a yearly tradition that the poster of the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme is derived from a real piece of art. For the 34th edition of the Memorial, Sam Dillemans has produced a beautiful portrait of Jesse Owens. As usual the work of art is auctioned to the benefit of a charity. This year the proceeds from the auction go to SOS Children’s Villages. Kim Gevaert, ambassador of the Memorial, is a patron of that organisation.
The auction of the painting happens in two parts: from now until Monday 23 August 2010 11:59 p.m. online bids are accepted. The starting price is 8000 euros. If you are over 18 and would like to acquire this work of art and support adult and SOS Children’s Villages, you can put in a bid right now.
On Monday 23 August 23 11:59 p.m., the online auction will be closed. The highest bidder at that time will be invited to come to the gala dinner of the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme in the Koloniënpaleis / Palace of the Colonies on Wednesday August 25 2010 (7 p.m.) and this along a second invitee of your choice. The auction will be continued among the guests there.
The work of art will go to the person putting in the highest bid at the time of closure of the auction, during the gala dinner on Wednesday 25 August. This of course by complying with the furthering of the deal by transferring the required sum to the account of the NGO SOS Children’s Villages. You can read and print all the rules and regulations of the auction here.
The highest bid so far is 9400 euros (bid on 12 August).
