Olympic champions Thiam, Duplantis and Hassan preview the Allianz Memorial Van Damme
Nafi Thiam, Mondo Duplantis and Sifan Hassan will be the biggest stars at Friday's 45th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. Ahead of the penultimate meet of the Wanda Diamond League the three protagonists spoke to the international press about their Olympic experiences, their expectations for Brussels, ... and Belgian chocolate.
Blanka Vlasic: "It was always an honour to compete in Brussels"
Former high jump ace Blanka Vlasic has been inducted into the Allianz Memorial Van Damme Hall of Fame. The Croatian athlete took part eight times in Brussels, winning on three occasions. Speaking in Brussels, Vlasic indicated she would love to stay in the sport and still follows her discipline closely.
Perez and Stahl take discus win in unique forest setting
Yaimé Pérez and Daniel Stahl have won the discus competition at the Urban Allianz Memorial Van Damme. With her final throw Pérez bested Olympic champion Valarie Allman by three centimetres. In the men's competition Olympic champion Daniel Stahl dominated by recording the top three throws of the night.
Richardson aiming to go below 22 seconds
Sha’Carri Richardson has a point to prove on the 200 metres at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. The 21-year-old American was absent from the recent Olympic Games, but is dreaming of a time below 22 seconds.

Vanderelst, de Europese indoorkampioene op 1500m, wil brandhout maken van het BR op de mijl.

Tomorrow the discus throwers will be competing in the Urban Allianz Memorial van Damme in Ter Kamerenbos. Daniel Stahl and Simon Petterson won the gold and silver medals in Tokyo. The Swedish duo want to enjoy the unique location in Brussels.
Fred Kerley : “I want to become a sprint legend”
Fred Kerley is considered to be the top favourite in the men's 100m during Friday's Allianz Memorial Van Damme. The 26-year-old American, who won the silver medal in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympic Games, wants to become one of the greatest sprinters of all time.
Crowds welcome again at 45rd Allianz Memorial Van Damme
“Ticket sales for the 45th Allianz Memorial Van Damme is going well”,says meeting director Cédric Van Branteghem. “Last year audiences were not allowed, due to the pandemic, but this year we are happy to please the crowds again. But of course, measures will remain in place. The upper stands remain closed, which reduces the capacity of the stadium to 30.000 spectators. Also, every visitor will need to possess a Covid Safe Ticket.”
