On Monday afternoon, Meeting Director Kim Gevaert and Wilfried Meert, together with the Mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close, and the Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Sport, Florence Frelinx, unveiled a four-metre-high bronze statue of Ivo Van Damme.
The imposing statue was created by Jan Desmarets and will be on display at the main entrance to the King Baudouin Stadium during the Memorial. It will also be positioned at the entrance during the event in the coming years. Once the refurbished Sports Park surrounding the stadium is fully completed, the statue will be given a permanent home there.
