Emmanuel Wanyonyi is the king of the 800m. The 22 year old kenyan is the reigning World and Olympic Champion on the distance and he is the second fastest world all time performer with 1’41”11. Recently he set an impressive 1000m World Record in Monaco. In the past three seasons Wanyonyi won all Diamond League Finals. In 2024 he became the Diamond League Winner in Brussels, which means that he has good memories of the Memorial Van Damme.
On Sep., 4th and 5th the Allianz Memorial Van Damme hosts the Wanda Diamond League Final, in which the best athletes from 2026 compete against each other in 32 events. The highest ranked 400m athlete so far is Busang Collen Kebinatshipi from Botswana. The 22 year old remains unbeaten this year and claimed victories in Xiamen, Paris, Eugene and Monaco. In the prince-bishropic he stormed to 43”44, to become the sixth fastest all time on the 400m. Kebinatshipi made his major breakthrough last year in Tokyo where he took gold at the World Championships.
