Yaroslava Mahuchikh will be one of the stars at the 50th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme on Friday 4 September. The 24-year-old Ukrainian is the world record holder and reigning Olympic Champion in the high jump and will be cheered on in Brussels. Mahuchikh has already won four times at the King Baudouin Stadium and is aiming for a fifth victory this year.
In 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, Mahuchikh was unbeatable at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. Her victory in 2024 also earned her the overall victory in the Diamond League. This year, the Memorial is once again the grand finale of the Diamond League, a series of the world’s greatest athletics meetings. Mahuchikh already has three overall victories to her name.
Normally, the Ukrainian accumulates enough points throughout the Diamond League season to secure a place in the final in Brussels. But even if unforeseen circumstances prevent her from doing so, the organisers have a wild card ready for the meeting record holder (2m05) and world record holder (2m10).
Mahuchikh is the second world record holder that the Allianz Memorial Van Damme can unveil. A few weeks ago, it was announced that pole vault legend Mondo Duplantis will also be returning to Brussels in September.
The women’s high jump and men’s pole vault feature on the programme of the 50th Allianz Memorial Van Damme, alongside 14 other disciplines, on Friday evening, 4 September. The other 16 disciplines – including the women’s 100 metres and men’s 200 metres – will take place on Saturday evening, 5 September. In addition to the main sports event, the public can also look forward to numerous extra surprises on both nights.
