Brussels breaks record while celebrating its Olympians

The first world record of the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme went to the crowd. While celebrating the Belgian Olympic team, the spectators in the King Baudouin Stadium broke the world record for waving.

With 6 medals the Rio Olympics were a succes for Belgium. The Olympians were treated to a special presentation in front of their home fans, who beat the world record for waving in the process with 42,000 hands greeting the Olympians simultaneously.
The Belgian delegation was driven around the track in open top cars with a lot of attention for heptathlon gold medalist Nafi Thiam and the Belgian hockey team that won silver in Rio.
With Olivia Borlée, Hanna Mariën, Elodie Ouedraogo and Kim Gevaert the crowd got to see four brand new Olympic champions as the 2008 Beijing 4×100 relay team were only just confirmed as the official gold medal winners after Russia were disqualified. The quartet was honoured with a special prize giving ceremony.
