Olympic Champion Kipyegon took the gold in 4’02”59, ahead of 2011 World Champion Jenny Simpson (4’02”76) and South African Olympic 800m Champion Caster Semenya (4’02”90). Briton Laura Muir narrowly missed out on a medal in front of her home crowd.
Strong favourite Sifan Hassan who holds the World Leading Performance only cam in fifth in 4’03”34. The Dutch battled in a fierce duel with Kipyegon all along the final 600m. Coming into the straight Hassan was still in front next to Kipyegon but then dramatically faded into 5th position.
Other WC finalists that are already confirmed to compete in the Diamond League Final in Brussels are Angelika Cichocka, Sifan Hassan, Winny Chebet and Rababe Arafi.
SILVER FOR SHUBENKOV
Reigning World Champion Sergey Shubenkov had to settele for silver in London in the 110m Hurdles. The Russian who competes as an authorized neutral athlete (ANA) was not a real threat to Omar Mc Leod who took the gold for Jamaica. Along with other WC finalists Orlando Ortega and Aries Merritt Shubenkov will run the Diamond League Final in Brussels.
