Authorised neutral athlete Maria Lasitskene defende her Wordl title convincingly when she crossed the bar at 2.03m in London. The Russian won all Diamond Races in 2017 and will be hard to beat in Brussels as well.
Lasitskene can be challenged by 19 yaer old Yuliya Levchenko. The young Ukrainian is rapidly raising her level and surprisingly moved up to take the silver in London. In the process Levchenko set a new personal best of 2.01m. A shocking mark, because the youngster had improved herself to 1.97m only two weeks earlier at the Monaco Diamond League meeting. Levchenko also took the honours in Heusden-Zolder where she beat Nafi Thiam in the pouring rain.
Kamila Licwinko from Poland took the bronze with a 1.99m jump. Licwinko ranks second in the Diamond race and remains a threat in the Final. Nafi Thiam was awarded a wild card to compete in this Diamond League final. When Thiam can show the form that she demonstrated in London, she is a contender for a top 3 spot in Brussels. Other High Jumpers that are qualified to compete in Brussels include Vashti Cunningham, Sofie Skoog, Alessia Trost, Erika Kinsey, Morgan Lake, Ruth Beitia, Mirela Demireva, Oksana Okuneva and Michaela Hruba. The exact field of competitors is still to be decided. Come and watch these women fly like birds in the sky over bars at incredible heights.
