With chilly temperatures at around 15° conditions in Oslo were far from being ideal for explosive events, but that didn’t seem to bother Warholm. In particular his final straight, in which he strongly pulled away from the field looked very impressive. Warholm’s previous personal best stood at 47,64. Thomas Barr from Ireland came in second in 49,11, ahead of Kyron Mc Master from the British Virgin Islands in 49,12.
Kenyan Norah Jeruto set a Meeting Record and a World Leading performance in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase. She beat two compatriots in 9’03”71. Dafne Schippers was the fastest in the 200m in 22,56.
ROAD TO BRUSSELS
Athletes could earn points to qualify for the Diamond League Final at the AG Memorial Van Damme in Brussels on September, 6th. The Women’s High Jump was a high level competition with 6 athletes still competing at a height of 1,96m. Finally it was Mariya Lasitskene who took victory when she crossed a bar at 2,01m, a World Leading performance.
Also on the Road to the Final in Brussels were the 100m Hurdles. American Christina Clemons was the surprising winner in that event. She ran down her compatriot Sherika Nelvis by 5 hundredths of a second : 12,69 against 12,74. But Nelvis still leads the Road to Brussels after 3 out of 6 qualifying races. Nelvis has a total of 20 points, while 3 other athletes – with Clemons amongst them – have 13 points.
