Heike Drechsler, Steve Cram, Merlene Ottey, Hicham El Guerrouj, Kim Gevaert, Tia Hellebaut and Wilfried Meert, the founder of the AG Memorial Van Damme, have already been introduced into this Hall of Fame. Willie Banks and Gail Devers are two true legends of USA Track and Field that will be introduced into the AG Memorial Van Damme Hall of Fame. Banks was a World Record holder in the Triple Jump from the mid-1980’s to the mid-1990’s. Gail Devers was a double Olympic 100m champion in the 1990’s. They have both been impressive at several occasions at the Memorial Van Damme.
Last but not least, Sebastian Coe will also be introduced to the Hall of Fame. The Briton set the first ever World Record at the Memorial in 1981 in the legendary Mile. Since 2015 Lord Coe is the president of the International Athletics Federation, the IAAF.
Banks, Devers and Coe will be officially introduced in the Hall of Fame at a gala dinner on Thursday September, 5th. At the 43rd AG Memorial Van Damme they will also be honoured and the audience will be able to relive magical Memorial moments of their careers on a large screen.
