Elaine Thompson performed very well in the qualifying meetings of the Diamond League, but finished a disappointing fifth at the London world championships on her favourite distance, the 100 metres. “That was a very big disappointment,” Thompson said. “I watched the images a thousand times by now and I still don’t know what went wrong. After the season I will analyse everything with my coach.”
The season ends after Friday night as the AG Memorial Van Damme will be the last race of the year for Thompson. “Brussels is known for its fast track and I really want to succeed myself as the Diamond League champion,” she added. "That's two good reasons to be happy before the start. The world championships were disappointing, but I’m still only 25 and I want to prove in the coming years that I’m still the best sprinter."
Thompson doesn’t have a specific time in mind for Friday. “I never do that. 10.70? Can be, might not. I like being surprised when I look at the times. I just try to run the best race possible."
