The yearning for the pole vault competition on the AG Memorial Van Damme can start

Since yesterday all eyes are on the European Athletics Championships in Berlin. So during the following days we will get to know which European champions will compete in the Memorial. But also from out of Europe more athletes confirm that they will appear at the start of the IAAF Diamond League final in Brussels. The pole vault competition will be once again one of the absolute heights of the meeting, literally and figuratively speaking.

The pole vault competition on the AG Memorial Van Damme is almost as legendary as the endurance races. The evenings with Sergei Bubka and Jelena Isinbayeva are unforgettable for the Belgian audience. Regarding the participants in the men’s vault, this year won’t be different. Sam Kendricks (4 Diamond League victories this year) is top favourite, but Shawn Barber, Renaud Lavillenie and Armand Duplantis will do everything to beat him.

Many more masters in their discipline will come to the Memorial.Big names for the 800m are the Kenyans Kinyamal and Rotich. Their fellow countrymen Balew, Barega and Chelimo (1 Diamond League victory each) will battle during the 5,000 metres. Sandra Perkovic, the leading lady in the discus throw, will also be there. The same for Lorraine Ugen and Malaika Mihambo. This week they battle in Berlin for the long jump crown, on the last day of August they’ll do it over during the Memorial.
