Omar McLeod had victory within sights in the 110m Hurdles but he stumbled over the last barrier. Sergey Shubenkov moved past and clutched victory in 13”12. Shubenkov now leads the Road to the Diamond League Final in Brussels at the AG Memorial Van Damme on September, 6th. Andre De Grasse won the 200m, thanks to a strong finish, in 20”19. Confusion in the Men’s Discus Throw where Daniel Stahl seemed to have won the competition with 69,94m, a new meeting record. But a late appeal from Fedrick Dacres from Jamaica against a no throw in his third round was accepted after the competition was closed. His massive throw of 70,78m, a new national record and a World Leading performance was reinstated. Austrian Weisshaidinger remained in third place.
Ismael Debjani stepped out of the 1500m in which he is chasing the entry standard for the IAAF World Championships. Probably Debjani still suffers from a slight groin injury that also disturbed him in Oslo. Kenyan Vincent Kibet won that race in 3:35.80. Local hero Soufiane El Bakkali couldn’t live up to the expectations of the local crowd in the 3000m Steeplechase. Getnet Wale won an Ethiopian duel in 8’06”01, a national record and a World Leading performance.
The Women’s 100m was surprisingly won by Blessing Okagbare in 11”05. She now heads the Road to Brussels in that event. Cuban Yaimé Perez threw her discus 68,28m, which is a new meeting record. In the Road to Brussels Perez now joins her compatriot Caballero in the leading position. Another meeting record was set by Sandi Morris. The American Pole Vaulter crossed a bar at 4.82m and remains a solid leader in the Road to Brussels. A fierce 800m battle was narrowly won by Kenyan Nelly Jepkosgei in 1’59”50, ahead of Habitam Alemu from Ethiopia.
