Karsten Warholm shaved two tenths of a second off his own European record in the 400 meter Hurdles and won his event in 46,92, the World’s all time second best mark. For the first time in history two athletes finished inside 47 seconds in the 400 meter Hurdles. American Rai Benjamin finished second in a blistering PB of 46,98 . Warholm not only set a European record but also a Meeting Record, a Diamond League Record and a World Lead. American Kevin Young still holds the World Record that stands at 46,78 since 1992.
Shaunae Miller-Uibo was the main attraction in the Women's 200m. The sprinter from the Bahamas stormed to 21,74 into a slight headwind, which is a Diamond League Record and a World Lead. At the World Championships in Doha Miller-Uibo is set to compete in the 400 meters only, which opens perspectives for her contenders in the shorter distance.. American Noah Lyles also counts amongst the World Championships favourites in two distances. In Zürich Lyles demonstrated pure speed in winning the 100 meters in 9,98, but he is even more dominant in the 200m which he will compete in in Doha.
Cuban Juan Miguel Echevarria knocked out the field in the Long Jump in the first round with massive and outstanding 8,65m, a Diamond Leaguer Record and a World Lead. Another Meeting Record and World Lead was set by Chinese Lijiao Gong in the Shot Put with 20,31m.
All Diamond League Winners in Zurich were awarded with 50.000 dollar Prize Money, and will bet he same at the Memorial Van Damme next week.
