The 72 best performances (times, heights, distances, ...) at meetings are awarded points, by analogy with the all-around / heptathlon. It is easy to compare editions on the basis of that points total. The Allianz Memorial Van Damme 2022 scored very well in width and depth thanks to the top participants. No fewer than 37 performances of Friday evening are now in the top 20 of all times of the Memorial across all disciplines.
There were 3 best world year performances (5000m men, javelin throw and high jump women) and 3 meeting records were improved (shot put men and 100m hurdles and javelin throw women) and 1 equalled (high jump women). One continental record was set (5000m Grant Fisher) and 11 national records, including two Belgian records (Bolingo in the 400m and Watrin in the 400m hurdles). During the one hour run, Sabastian Sawe ran a world record over 15000m and the fastest 10 miles ever on the track. The one hour run results are not taken into account for calculating the meeting score.
All this on a worn-out track that turned out to be very well patched after all, judging by the performances. We are already looking forward to the 2023 edition (on 8 September) on a brand new track!
