Shericka Jackson was one of the major contenders in the breathtaking Women’s 100m final at the World Championships. In the latter stage of the race only Sha’Carri Richardson was able to catch Jackson who took the Silver. On Thursday night Jackson also qualified for the 200m final as the second fastest of all competitors. The Jamaican definitely proved to be one of the best overall sprinters in the world this year.
Another Jamaican, Elaine Thompson-Herah was heralded the fastest woman in the world in the recent past, as she won double Olympic Gold in 2016 and 2021 at both the 100m and the 200m. At the Allianz Memorial Van Damme Thompson-Herah will compete in the 100m.
The brand new track in the King Baudouin Stadium will be hosting a large number of sprint events on Sep., 8th. The Women’s 100m, 200m and 400m is on the meeting program. In the 400m the local crowd will be cheering Cynthia Bolingo, the first Belgian woman to break the 50 seconds barrier on the distance (49”96). Bolingo finished 5th in the World Championships 400m final. An evening to look forward to for both Bolingo and the local fans.
