On Sep. 6th the spectators in the King Baudouin stadium will have the privilege to watch the Olympic Pole Vault champion – and maybe by then also the World Champion – jump. Renaud Lavillenie is highly favoured to take the gold at the World Championships in Moscow that are due to start at Aug. 10th. The six highest jumps of 2013 are all set by Lavillenie.
Last weekend the Frenchman proved to be in great shape in winning the London Diamond League meeting with a 6.02m jump, which is a new French national outdoor record. Lavillenie asked to raise the bar at 6.16m but failed to break Sergey Bubka’s World Record. If there is an athlete able to break that record from the legendary Ukrainian, it must be Lavillenie. Maybe he can rise to the occasion in Brussels ?
The Belgacom Memorial Van Damme is no unknown territory for Lavillenie. “Already twice I finished in second place. This year there is no other option for me but winning !”, says the Olympic Champion with sheer enthusiasm.
