As it was the case in previous years the IAAF Diamond League consists of 14 meetings, with the last two being the Finals. 16 Diamond League Champions will be crowned on August, 29th in Zürich and 16 more on Friday September, 6th at the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.
Spread across 12 qualifying meetings every event will be held 4 or 6 times. De Top 8 finishers in each event earn points and the 8 best qualifiers in each event will be invited to compete in the IAAF Diamond League Finals in Zürich and Brussels. The winners in the Finals will be the 2019 Diamond League Champions who win the eagerly wanted Diamond Trophy.
The Diamond League 2019 takes off next Friday evening in the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, where the 2019 IAAF World Championships will be held in September. In Qatar 10 events are scheduled of which the Final will take place in Brussels.
Therefore we will closely watch the Men’s 200m, 1500m, 3000m Steeplechase, Shot Put and Discus Throw. In the Women’s events the Road to Brussels is open in the 800m, 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault and Long Jump.
There will be no Belgian interest in Doha. Belgian athletes will have the opportunity to collect points in the next meetings and the AG Memorial Van Damme is also authorized to give wildcards to Belgian athletes.
