World Record holder Kevin Young posted 46”78 at 400m Hurdles at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Samba finished ahead of Kyron McMaster from the Virgin Islands who crossed the tape in 47”54. Reigning World Champion Karsten Warholm came in third in 48”06.
The closing 100m dash was won by Ronnie Baker in strong 9”88 equalling the World Lead and setting a personal best. The American also leads the Road to Brussels. Local hero Jimmy Vicaut came in second in 9”91 and is sitting close to Baker in the Road to Brussels.
In the B-heat of the 100m Christophe Lemaitre suffered from a thigh injury. The bronze medal winner of the 2016 Games tightened up with 30m to go, stumbled into the finish line and collapsed.
Fedrick Dacres from Jamaica won the Discus Throw with an effort of 67,01m. Philip Milanov finished in 7th place with 64,00m. The Belgian now ranks 6th in the Road to Brussels and has secured his spot in the Diamong League final.
Ismael Debjani finished 9th in the 1500m. The Belgian broke the entry standard for the European Championships (3,38,10) by a large margin with 3,35,71. It was only Debjani’s first appearance on the distance this season and it puts him in 3rd place on the European season lists.
Meanwhile Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot set a World Lead in the 1500m, crossing the line in 3,29,71 ahead of Ayanleh Suleiman from Djibouti (3,31,77) and his compatriot Charles Cheboi Simotwo (3,32,61).
Ronald Levy was the fastest on the high hurdles in 13,17. The Jamaican leads the Road to Brussels after 3 of 6 races. Sam Kendricks also put himself in a strong lead on his Road to Brussels while winning the Pole Vault with a World Leading performance of 5,96m.
Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech set a World Lead in the 3000m steeplechase. The 27 year old finished in 8,59,36 ahead of her compatriots Celliphine Chepteek Chespol (9:01.82) and Hyvin Kiyeng (9:03.86). Chepkoech finished 4th in the 2012 Olympic Games and at the 2017 World Championships and is now one of only 4 athletes ever to cover the distance in less than 9 minutes.
Sandra Perkovic won the Discus Throw. She also set a meeting record when she threw the discus 68,50m in her second attempt. The Croatian also ranks first in the Road to Brussels.
Salwa Eid Naser won the 400m in a personal best of 49,55. In the Road to Brussels the Bahreini now ranks in second place behind Phyliis Francis from the USA.
In the High Jump Nafi Thiam came in second with 1,97m. Mariya Lasitskene crossed the bar at 2,04m, a meeting record and a world leading performance.
