“21”41 is just awesome”, said Shericka after her race. “In the semi I ran a bit more conservatively in the bend, the final was a really good race. I was not thinking about the World record, even if I I am coming close to it now. But I continue to work hard and I hope to consolidate my actual form and level. The World Record ? I’m close, really close, one day I may well catch it …”
The King Baudouin Stadium has a tradition of fast 200m races, because of the magical bend on the track. Yohan Blake ran the second best all time 200m in Brussels in 2011 (19”26) and Merlene Ottey set a meeting record of 21”64 in 1991, still the 7th fastest all time performance on the distance. Brussels Meeting Director Kim Gevaert set the Belgian National Record of 22”20 in Brussels as well.
Shericka Jackson will be one of many World Champions to appear at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. Femke Bol (400m Hurdles), Haruka Kitaguchi (Javelin Throw) and Mondo Duplantis (Pole Vault) will be amongst the others.
