At the World Championships in Athletics in Oregon (USA) Thiam crossed a bar at 1,95m on July, 17th during the first day of the Heptathlon where she was in the lead after 4 events. The High Jump is the favourite event of Thiam and also her strongest event. On July 18th tne next three events will be held and it is likely that the 27 year old athlete from Namur (Belgium) will earn her second World Heptathlon title.
At the Brussels Diamond League meeting Thiam will face some of the world’s best high jumpers. Yaroslava Mahuchikh from the Ukraine tops the bill. The 20 year old won the bronze Olympic medal in Tokyo. A few weeks later she won the High Jump at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme with a 2,02m effort. Last winter Mahuchikh also won the World Indoor title with 2,02m. Het Personal Best stands at 2,06m. Mahuchikh wiull be joined in Brussels by another Ukrainian. Yuliya Levchenko, 8th in the Olympic final will also be on the infield.
Isaac Kimeli also joins the field
Another Belgian athlete will also figure on the billboards of the 46th Allianz Memorial Van Damme. Isaac Kimeli finished in 10th position in the World Championships 10000m recently. The 28 year old distance runner from Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (Belgium) was the first European in the gruelling event. At the Brussels Diamond League meeting Kimeli will compete in the 5000m.
