200m Men
Noah Lyles is the fastest man in the world this year in the 200m with his 19,50 win in Lausanne. With the World Championships coming closer, he looks to building up to his best form. Yesterday he won the 100m in Zürich. Next week Lightning Lyles can set Brussels on fire in the 200m. The track is famous for its 200m bend on which Blake, Dix and Bolt once stormed to 19,26, 19,53 and 19,57 respectively ... There is no doubt that Lyles will want to shoot in that same territory. World and European Champion Ramil Guliyev is eager to provide a tough challenge, as well as De Grasse and Quinonez. So there will certainly be some kind of magic on the track in the final event of the evening !
Discus Throw Men
When Daniel Stahl from Sweden is on the infield, there is always somenthing special in the air. Stahl produced eight of the ten longest throws of the year, three of his throws sailed beyond 70m ! Only Jamaican Fedrick Dacres was able to make inroads in the World’s longest throws of the year. Think World and European Champion Gudzius and Olympic Champion Harting on the Entry List and for sure the discusses are going to fly high. Philip Milanov has thrown beyond 64m in 6 different competitions this year but the Belgian is still chasing the 65m qualifying mark for Doha. With a wildcard and in front of his home fans this the ideal occasion to do so.
High Jump Women
Mariya Lasitskene is a class of her own in the Women’s High Jump this year. She has un unbeaten record of 17 competitions in 2019, starting from January. In 15 of these competitions Lasitskene crossed bars of 2,00m and beyond. She is one of the few sky high favourites to add a Diamond Trophy to her tally. The toughest challenger for the Authorized Neutral Athlete may well be ... Nafi Thiam. Thiam showed excellent form in the Long Jump recently in Birmingham after producing impressive 2,02m at the Décastar in Talence. Thiam ranks in second behind Lasitskene in the IAAF Top List this year and with the massive support of her local fans the Belgian will try to make life difficult for Lasitskene.
