Despite a slight headwind of 0.1 meters per second, Lyles improved his personal best by fifteen hundredths of a second. Only Usain Bolt (19.19), Yohan Blake (19.26) and Michael Johnson (19.32) have ever run faster than Lyles did in Lausanne. Lyles also ran the fastest 200m since the 2012 Olympics.
Polish Pole Vaulter Piotr Lisek became the other star of the evening. For the first time in his career he jumped beyond six meters. His clearance at 6m01 also was a World Leading performance. Another outstanding athlete in Lausanne was Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot, who clocked 3:28.77 in the 1,500 metres and who also set another World Lead in Lausanne. At least as stunning was the 18-year-old Norvegian talent Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who came in second in 3:30.16.
In the 5,000 metres Ethiopian Hagos Gebrhiwet threw his arms in the air while sprinting for victory a lap too early. He eventually became tenth, his compatriot Yomif Kejelcha won it in 13:00.56.
