Ahead of the AG Memorial Van Damme which is the IAAF Diamond League Final, the AG Urban Memorial Van Damme Series presents high level athletics at various eyecatching locations in different Belgian city centres. On Saturday Aug., 25th Antwerp is the hosting city. The setting of the Pole Vault competition is absolutely awesome. The Pole Vault will take place on a platform that is built on the water of the Bonaparte Docks, at the backdrop of the “Museum on the River” (MAS).
The Entry List looks as spectacular as the setting. On top of the bill of this competition is the World’s best Pole Vaulter Renaud Lavillenie. The French athlete holds the actual World Record with 6,16m. The bronze medal winner of the EC in Berlin will face tough competition from Russian athlete Timur Morgunov who won silver in Berlin as an Authorized Neutral Athlete with an effort of 6,00m. Belgian record holder and finalist in Berlin Arnaud Art will also compete, as will his compatriot Ben Broeders. Italian Claudio Stecchi is another EC-finalist on the Entry List. Germans Daniel Clemens, Karsten Dilla and Tobias Scherbarth are the other participants, as well as Stanley Joseph and Jules Cypres from France.
BATTLE OF THE TITANS IN BRUSSELS
At the AG Memorial Van Damme Lavillenie and Morgunov will face stronger opponents still. Supertalented newly crowned European Champion Armand Duplantis will be on the infield. In Berlin the Swede crossed the bar at 6,05m, which is very exceptional for an 18 year old. We are looking forward tot he duel between Duplantis and American Sam Kendricks who dominatest he Pole Vault this year with 4 Diamond League wins. All the World best pole vaulters will be present in the King Baudouin Stadium, with Shawn Barber (2015 World Champion), Pawel Wojciechowski and Piotr Lisek from Poland, German Raphael Holzdeppe and Greek Konstandinos Filippidis.
