A British team set a new World Leading mark in the Men’s 4 x 100m relay. The quartet Ujah, Hughes, Gemili and Mitchell-Blake won in 37,61 which is 24 hunderdths quicker than a Japanese team earlier this year.
Another World Leading performance was set in the Women’s 100m Hurdles. American Kendra Harrison beat a strong field in 12,36, which is 2 hundredths faster than her compatriot Brianna McNeal last month in Stockholm. So far 5 Diamond League finalists in this event come from the USA.
Sandra Perkovic (CRO) won the Discus Throw with a 67,24m effort to beat Cuban Yaime Perez (64,63m) by a large margin. Both athletes are now qualified for the final in Brussels on August, 31st at the AG Memorial Van Damme.
Jenna Prandini took a first Diamond League win in the Women’s 200m. The American won in 22,16 ahead of Gabrielle Thomas (22,19) and Shericka Jackson (22,22). Prandini, Jackson (JAM) and Ta Lou (CIV) are now sure to race in the Final in Brussels.
The final race of the meeting in London was a cracking Mile in which Sifan Hassan blew the field apart with sheer sprinting speed. The Dutchwoman set a World Leading mark and a Diamond League record in 4,14,71. It is the second all time performance in this event where the World record is held since 1996 by Russian Svetlana Masterkova. Tsegay and Obiri also set all time Top 10 performances to finish in 2nd and 3rd place in this memorable race.
