Klishina travelled from Moscow to Brussels after a week training in the Russian capital. She will then return back to Russia on holidays and to visit her family. Klishina lives and trains in Florida since 2013 and when holidays are over she is heading back for the USA to prepare for the indoor season.
About her having competed at the Olympics as the only authorised neutral athlete (ANA) Klishina said that this may have happened by accident. “I suspect that maybe decision makers were not aware of the fact that I already lived 3 years outside Russia and that therefore “by accident” I could compete in Rio. In any case, I never had any personal contact with the governing bodies. We kept informed about about the ongoing process as any other athlete in the world did.”
But Klishina definitely wants to shine one more time this season. “Of course I hope to win the Final of the IAAF Diamond League here at the AG Memorial Van Damme. I’m still in good shape (Klishina jumped 7.00m in London). The Mondo track in Brussels is famous on the circuit for its speed and that is what long jumpers are looking for. Athletes also told me about the fantastic atmosphere in the stadium.”
Asked which habits she has changed she she lives in the USA, Klishina said that she loves to cook and that she finds it exciting that groceries offer a lot of fresh products.
On Wednesday Klishina will participate with Olivia Borlée in a Neuhaus Chocolate workshop. “I am very fond of sweets and particularly of chocolate”, admits Klishina. “I will very much like this !” It also allows me to walk along the interesting monuments of the city and to get a feel of what Brussels is like.”
