The Men’s 400m Hurdles has not been on the meeting program of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme since 2015. Karsten Warholm heads an impressive field at the second to last leg of the Wanda Diamond League. Since 2017, the Norvegian has been winning consecutive titles : gold at the WC in London in 2017, gold at the EC in Berlin in 2018, gold at the WC in Doha 2019 and gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo recently. On the occasion Warholm smashed his own World Record by no less than 76 hundredts of a second to break the tape in 45”94. Warholm broke the 29 year old World Record from Kevin Young earlier this year on July, 1st in Oslo by 8 hundredts of a second.
In the Olympic Final Alison dos Santos also ran faster than the old World Record from Young. With 46.72 the 21 year old Brasilian cracked the mark set by the American at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona by 6 hundredts. The Men’s 400m Hurdles final was a phenomenal race in Tokyo, with 7 out of 8 finalists setting personal bests The World Record, three Area Records and six National Records were beaten ! Six of those finalists will be competing in Brussels on Friday Sep., 3rd in the King Baudouin Stadium. Besides Warholm and Dos Santos also Kyron McMaster (IVB-4th), Abderrahman Samba (QAT-5th), Yasmani Copello (TUR-6th) and Rasmus Mägi (EST-7th) are confirmed. A race that will be great to watch !
