“The IAAF Diamond League is a valuable asset for the IAAF,” said Diack. “Therefore I’m delighted to announce that the IAAF has agreed a new contract with our partners which will ensure the IAAF’s continuous support of the series at least until 2019.”
The IAAF Diamond League was established in 2010 as a replacement of the IAAF Golden League series (1998-2009). “Since its establishment it has conquered a place in the hearts and minds of sports fans worldwide.”
The IAAF Diamond League encompasses 14 meetings in Asia, the Middle East and the United States, as well as in Europe. Traditionally the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme which will be staged as the big final of the competition on September, 5 in the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels.
“The worldwide TV audience for the IAAF Diamond League is far greater than the previous Golden League”, Lamine Diack added. “In 2013 it attracted a global audience of 265 million viewers across 135 countries”.
“With the launch of the IAAF Diamond League App and extensive use of social media to attract the younger sport fans, we are confident that the series will continue to grow”, commented the IAAF President.
