“I am familiar with the Memorial Van Damme and with the international athletics scene, but still it was a bit of a step in the unknown when I accepted to become the new Meeting Director”, said Kim Gevaert during the press conference that launched the 46th Allianz Memorial Van Damme.
“But I am supported by a competent and experienced team that is guiding me through everything and of which I’m learning a lot about all the organisational issues. I am bringing a network with me that I’ve been building in my active career and afterwards. Contacts with sponsors and with different autorities is also something that I’ve been doing for quite some time. We are more than ready to tackle the 46th Allianz Memorial Van Damme !”
Kim Gevaert replaced Cédric Van Branteghem as the Meeting Director. Gevaert was a European 100m and 200m Champion in 2006 and anchored the Belgian golden Olympic 4 x 100m relay team in 2008. Gevaert also holds the record of appearances at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. She competed no less than 11 consecutive times between 1998 and 2008.
