Several media reported that Duplantis wouldn’t take part in either Zurich of Brussels, but those reports are wide of the mark. Louisiana State University, the American university of 18-year-old Duplantis, has given the Swede the green light to go for the win on Friday in the final event of the IAAF Diamond League.
On Thursday Duplantis will hold a press conference at the event’s athlete hotel in Brussels to preview Friday’s competition. He won’t join most of his competitors, including world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, at Wednesday night’s Zurich exhibition.
The AG Memorial Van Damme will field seven members of the so-called Six Metre Club. In addition to Duplantis, Renaud Lavillenie, Timur Morgunov, Sam Kendricks, Shawn Barber, Piotr Lisek and Thiago Braz will all take part in Brussels. Belgian champion Arnaud Art gets the opportunity to challenge the world’s best.
