In his first attempt at 6,01m Duplantis seemed to cross the bar at ease, even though it improved his previous World Lead by 1 centimeter. It also set a new Stadium Record, that stood at 5,95m since 1995 by Rodion Gataullin from Russia.
‘Mondo’ then tried bars at 6,15m, but didn’t succeed so far. 6,15m would improve the outdoor World Record, held by Sergei Bibka by 1 centimeter. It would also top Duplantis own outdoor best by 10cm. Duplantis holds the World Record of 6,18m, set in the recent indoor season.
“Breaking the Meeting Record was very important to me”, explained Duplantis after jumping 6,01m in Stockholm. “But I definitely want to jump 6,15m as well. Many maybe thought that I wouldn’t come close to 6m bars this summer, but I want to prove that I am able to.” On September, 4th Duplantis will get another chance at the AG Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.
Second place in Stockholm went to Ben Broeders, who was equally second in Monaco. The Belgian set a seasonal best of 5,73m in Stockholm.
Jacob Ingebrigtsen is another world class athlete who can be seen in Brussels. The Norvegian finished in second in Stockholm in the 1500m in 3:30.74, two seconds shy of the European Record that he set in Monaco. Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot again was victorious in 3:30.25.
The meeting in Stockholm was highlighted by Karsten Warholm. The Norvegian set a new European Record in the 400m Hurdles in 46.87, which is only 9 hundredths of a second off the World Record owned by Kevin Young.
