Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis crossed a 6,00m bar at his third and final attempt in Monaco. The Swede then had three more tries and failures at 6,15m. In Brussels he will probably get another chance to attack the outdoor World Record of 6,14m in the event. Ben Broeders will also be on the runway in Brussels in his home country. In Monaco the Leuven based athlete secured a well deserved second spot with 5,70m.
In the 1500m Jacob Ingebrigtsen has set a new European Record. The 19 year old Norvegian broke the previous mark, set by Mo Farah in 2013 by 17 hundredths of a second. The new mark now stands at 3:28.68. However Ingebrigtsen had to settle for second place in Monaco behind Timothy Cheruiyot from Kenya (3:28.45).
Both Jacob Ingebrigtsen and Mo Farah will be present at the AG Memorial Van Damme on September, 4th. Ingebrigtsen will be in a 1500m race along with his brothers Henrik and Filip. Farah attacks the One Hour World record that is currently held by Haile Gebreselassie.
The Monaco Diamond League meeting was highlighted by Joshua Cheptegei. The Ugandan set a new 5000m World Record in 12:35.36. The 10000m World Champion shaved almost 2 seconds off the previous record held by Kenenisa Bekele in 2004.
