One of the events to look out for will be the Men’s Pole Vault. In this year’s meeting Mondo Duplantis set a new meeting record of 6,05m in Brussels and only narrowly failed to set a new World record at 6,19m.
The Women’s High Jump will again take the special attention from the audience. It is the favourite event from local hero and double Olympic Heptathlon Champion Nafi Thiam. This year all three Olympic medal winners lined up in Brussels : Mariya Lasitskene, Nicola McDermott and Yaroslava Mahuchikh made it a great competition.
The Dutch middle distance and distance queen Sifan Hassan was astonishing in Brussels when she set a One Hour World Record in Brussels in 2020 and a new Meeting Record on the Mile in 2021. What will she bring in 2022 ? A new 1500m Meeting Record ? The Men’s 400m Hurdles also looks awesome. Alison Dos Santos (2021 winner in Brussels), Rai Benjamin and Karsten Warholm are three men who broke the 47 seconds barrier in 2021, putting the event in the spotlights of international sports. Warholm even set a World record at 45”94.
The meeting organisers decided to add a Men’s 400m to the program of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. The Men’s 400m has a rich national tradition, built on the outstanding performances of the Belgian Tornadoes, the 4 x 400 Relay team. In the next months some more additional events will be included in the program.
