“We were strong this year” said Kévin Borlée, “but something was missing”. The Belgian Tornados, the 4 x 400m team, just dropped off the medals in finishing 4th in London. At the European indoors in Belgrade they were not able to defend their title and finished in 2nd.
“We can be satisfied about the World Championships. I was confident in the semis and it felt like my race was faster than 45”10, after I clocked 45”08 in the heats. Maybe the virus was still active in my body.”
In the DL-Final in Zürich Kévin ran 45”77 for 5th place. “Now it is all about recovery and try to be as fresh as possible next Friday. I already felt better than in Birmingham. Hopefully I will be completely recovered Friday, because in our home base we always want to compete at our best.”
Twin brother Jonathan became the father of a daughter recently and he is not entirely satisfied about his season. “I have no explanation yet, except that a hamstring injury kept me sidelined for 2 months. We always work hard to do better. But I had good races as well. In Brussels I will run the skin off my bones.”
Dylan Borlée called it a “frustrating season with lessons learned”. Especially in June and July it was difficult for me : I made some mistakes in my preparation and I suffered from some physical problems. Hopefully things turn out well next Friday.”
