400m Men
With Bloomfield, Norman and Kerley three of the 400m Diamond Race Finalists have already broken the 44 seconds barrier. The Americans did it this year, while Jamaican Akeem Bloomfield won the last 2 Diamond League meetings. Can Bloomfield repeat his display in Brussels and upset an American party ? Steven Gardiner may well be a contender as well, if only the Bahamian finds back his best form. Local fans also look forward to their national champion – to be crowned next weekend - who will compete in this Final.
Discus Throw Women
When we talk about the Women’s Discus Throw, we think Sandra Perkovic. The Croatian Olympic and World Champion has dominated her event for many years. But this season two Cubans have beaten her on every single occasion. Former World Champion Denia Caballero and Yaimé Perez won all 4 Diamond League events this year, two each. But Perkovic is a tough competitor, especially when it comes to Finals. It will become a thrilling event, where the implements may well fly close to the magical 70m mark.
Long Jump Women
The Women’s Long Jump is an event that is often decided by single centimeters, excitement is guaranteed ! Especially in this competitive field including multiple Triple Jump World Champion and 2018 Long Jump Diamond League Winner in Brussels Caterine Ibarguen and 4 times World Champion Brittney Reese from the USA. But the European challenge in this event will be hard to hold off. European Champion and World Leader Malaika Mihambo (7,16m) is in the form of her life, the British heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson showed great shape at last week’s British trials. Serbian Ivana Spanovic won medals in all kind of global championships and is building up her form ahead of the World Championships, while Ukrainian Marya Bekh-Romanchuk leads the Diamond League Standings. Great spectacle to look forward to at the far side of the stadium !
