Dylan Borlée, Robin Vanderbemden, Jonathan Borlée and Jonathan Sacoor competed in the Final of the 4 x 400m. They finished in 4th place in 3.02.70, but the team of the USA was disqualified for a lane infringement which allowed Belgium to move up to bronze. Trinidad and Tobago won the event (3.00.81), the USA came in second (3.00.84) but were disqualified, while Jamaica finished in third (3.01.57).
The Mixed Relay team finished in 8th place in their final. Julien Watrin, Lucie Ferauge, Hanne Claes and Jonathan Sacoor clocked 3.25.74. Especially Sacoor, who competed minutes earlier in the Men’s 4 x 400m wasn’t able to defend his chances properly. The United States (3.16.43) won the event ahead of Canada (3.18.15) and Kenya (3.19.43).
The Belgian Cheetahs finished second in the B-Final of the 4 x 400m Women. Hanne Claes, Paulien Couckuyt, Liefde Schoemaker and Camille Laus finished in 3.31.71. Their 10th place on aggregate secured them a qualifying spot for the World Championships in Doha (27 Sep – 6 Oct).
The good news is that three Belgian Relay Teams have qualified for the 4 x 400m at the World Championships. But before that they will greet their audience at the AG Memorial Van Damme, on Friday sep., 6th in the King Baudouin Stadium.
