On May, 5th the IAAF Diamond Race 2017 took off in Doha and that also signified the start of the Road to Brussels. Athletes could score points and qualify for the Final in their event, either on Aug., 24th in Zürich or on Sep., 1st in Brussels.
87 athletes are now qualified to compete in Brussels. 61 athletes will be added after the Diamond League meeting of Birmingham on Aug., 20th. In Brussels the Diamond Race winners will be decided in straight finals. The athletes who win their event in Brussels will be crowned the Diamond League winners, no matter the points that they had scored to qualify.
But now all eyes are set on the World Championships in Athletics that will be held in London ! 79 out of the 87 athletes that qualified for Brussels are on the Entry List in London. Courtney Okolo (400m), Amos Kirui, Abraham Kibiwott, Nicholas Kiptanui Bett, Benjamin Kigen (all 3000 meter steeple), Pedro Pablo Pichardo, Jhon Murillo (both in the Triple Jump) and Christoph Harting (Discus Throw) don’t show up in London. Agnes Jebet Tirop qualified for the Diamond League 5000m Final but competes in the 10.000m in London. The World Championships are a great occasion to learn to know the 79 qualified athletes better !
