Meeting director Cédric Van Branteghem was happy to announce that the City of Brussels had given green light for allowing fans in the stadium on Friday Sep., 3rd. “The details of all the measures and rules that will apply early September have not been finally decided yet. But the City of Brussels has confirmed that it will be possible to welcome back the fans and the audiences, unless the pandemic would unexpectedly rise again. We as organisers will comply with all the rules and restrictions that apply in September and make sure that everybody in and around the stadium will feel themselves in a safe and healthy environment.”
Benoit Hellings, alderman of the City of Brussels : “We are delighted that the Memorial Van Damme can again be staged as it used to be since 1977. It is a great pleasure for me to open the doors of the King Baudouin stadium to the fans and the audiences which we expect to turn out in great numbers. This is a very important event for the City of Brussels and for the sports and athletics fans. We can’t wait to enjoy the excitement and the competition at their highest levels !”
The 14 Diamond League events for the 45th edition of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme have already been decided. They include the Pole Vault Men, the High Jump Women, the 100m and the 400m Men and the 200m Women. Additional events to the Diamond League program will be a 10000m Men and a 4 x 400m Mixed Relay, with members of the Belgian Tornadoes and Cheetahs on the infield.
Cédric Van Branteghem: The meeting has a strong tradition in distance races and we want to respect that tradition. Last year the One Hour races proved to be gigantically successful. That is why we start the meeting program with a 10000m that will become a very special event … The meeting program will be closed by a 4 x 400m Mixed Relay. Belgian Male and Female 4 x 400m Relay Teams are Olympians, they deserve to be shown to the crowd.”
