The Women’s 3000m Steeplechase was a very strong event at the World Championships in Oregon. And the race was extremely fast. Winnen Norah Jeruto set the 3rd all time best performance with 8’53”02. Second and third placers set the 4th and 5th all time performances. That has inspired Ethiopian Werkusha Getachew – silver medal winner at the WC – to make a World Record attempt
The World Record is held by Beatrice Chepkoech since 2018 and stands at 8’44”32. Getachew will not only face World Champion Jeruto, but she will also be challenged by Winfred Yavi, 4th at the WC and Diamond League leader and by World Record holder Chepkoech.
In the Women’s High Jump the Gold and Silver medal winners in Oregon will also be on the infield. World Champion Eleanor Patterson from Australia has now confirmed to compete in Brussels. Silver medallist and Diamond League leader Yaroslava Mahuchikh from the Ukraine was already confirmed, as well as her compatriot Levchenko and Heptathlon World Champion Nafi Thiam.
World One Hour Record also under threat
Kenyans Kibiwott Kandie and Sabastian Sawe will make an attempt at the World One Hour record and the 20000m World Best that were set by Mo Farah and Bashir Abdi respectively at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in 2019. This will be the opening event of the meeting.
