After Doha, Shanghai, Eugene, Rome, Oslo, Stockholm, Paris, Lausanne, London, Rabat and Monaco Birmingham was the 12th and last DL-meeting for athletes to rank themselves amongst the top performers in their event. The Diamond League Finals will be held in Zürich on Aug. 24th and in Brussels on Sep. 1st at the AG Memorial Van Damme.
The athletes who win their event in Zürich and in Brussels will be crowned Diamond League Winners 2017.

Athletes who decline the invitation to compete will be replaced by the next ranked athlete in that DL-event. Andre De Grasse and Churandy Martina will not compete in the 200m and will be replaced by . Christophe Lemaitre and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake. In the 3000 meter Steeplechase Sebastian Martos replaces Hillary Bor and in the 110 meter Hurdles Ronald Levy will replace Omar McLeod.
Organisers have the opportunity to grant wildcards. Nafi Thiam has been granted a wildcard to compete in the High Jump at the AG Memorial Van Damme.

Julien Watrin and Kevin, Jonathan and Dylan Borlée will be competing in a promotional 400 meter (no Diamond League event), while World Champion Elijah Manangoi from Kenya is the main attraction in a promotional 1500 meter.
