As the Diamond League Final, the Memorial will feature the finals of all 32 disciplines across two days, showcasing all qualified finalists\u2014elite athletes from the very top of world athletics. Athletes earn their place throughout the season via the 14 global qualifying meetings, starting next week with the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai. Pole vault phenomenon Mondo Duplantis and the world\u2019s best high jumper, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who were announced earlier, will certainly be in action in Brussels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the official Diamond League programme, several extra disciplines will be included at the Memorial. On Friday evening, French athlete Jimmy Gressier, the reigning world champion over 10,000 metres, will attempt to break the one-hour record. The current record of 21,330 metres was also set at the Memorial, back in 2020 by Mo Farah. Isaac Kimeli, meanwhile, has set his sights on improving the Belgian 5,000-metre record\u2014a mark that has stood since 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As tradition dictates, the Memorial will once again feature a strong para-athletics programme, including L\u00e9a Bayekula in the 400 metres T54 and a 100 metres T63 (blades) race with athletes such as Ilias Benkaddour. In partnership with Allianz, the programme will also include a 100-metre frame running event for the first time\u2014a para sport that has existed for ten years but remains relatively unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
