In this 40 week period the AG Smurf will meet 40 athletes. These athletes will be invited to show their support for the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme through campaigns on social media. The AG Smurf will also collect signatures of the athletes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Athletes who have already \u201csmurfed\u201d the AG Smurf include Louise Carton, Marieke Vervoort, Olivia Borl\u00e9e, Gesa Felicitas Krause and C\u00e9dric Van Branteghem, the Assistant Meeting Director of the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>#Smurf2world is a campaign for sports promotion and for charity. During the 40th AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme 40 Smurfs will be on auction in favor of Unicef. Every Smurf carries the signature of one of the international athletes that the AG Smurf met on his journey.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThis is the best ambassador that we could dream of to present the 40th AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme to the stars of international athletics\u201d, says C\u00e9dric Van Branteghem. \u201cThe world famous comic strip character will make the Diamond League Final shine everywhere in the world and we\u2019re delighted that our title partner AG Insurance supports this charity initiative.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>V\u00e9ronique Culliford, the daughter of Peyo who created the Smurfs continues : \u201cI\u2019m very proud that our Smurf is the mascot of such a prestigious sports event that appeals to large crowds for more than 40 years now.
